The User Details section of under the Asset tab of Computers has been update to allow the Owner to be associated with a User in the system.
This change allows us to create a better association between Users and their assets and eliminates the duplication of Users information in multiple locations throughout the system as well as eliminating errors during the manual entry of the Users details.
This is an auto complete field that will search the details of existing user to find a match.
If the user doesn’t already exist as a user in the system, you can create a new user using the gear icon next to the Owner entry box. If this is an asset only user and you don’t want them to get an activation email, you can choose not to send an email via the “Send activation mail” check box.
If the email address that was previously associated with the Computer was also associated with an existing User in the system, then we automatically linked that User as the Owner of the Computer.
If you previously had user details defined for the Computer, then the details are still available in a read only view with the following message:
“The following User Details fields are deprecated and will be removed in the near future. The Owner filed above, along with its data, should be used instead to represent this Hardware’s owner. Please create users in your system to capture this data as you see fit.”
We encourage all customer who had utilized these fields in the past to migrate this data as soon as possible before it is no longer available.
If you had no User details associated with the Computer, then these fields have already been removed.
