As summer comes to a close, what better way to end it than another Chopped inspired Samanage BBQ cook (smoke?) off?
Samanage employees could be found in the parking lot and patio of the Cary, NC headquarters with their grills, smokers, and laptops to find a new answer to the question from last year’s competition:
Who will earn bragging rights in the “Chopped: Samanage Edition” barbecue challenge?
On a cool Thursday morning and after months of preparation and planning, seven teams showed up with their smokers, marinated meat, and delicious sides ready to impress our team and the judges. They fired up their equipment, and soon enough, the whole Samanage team was salivating with anticipation.
At four o’clock sharp, the judges stationed themselves in a meeting room, while the rest of the Samanage team waited at a bar filled with additional food provided by our resident barbecue expert Marc Stitt (Vice President, Marketing).
By five o’clock the judges finished their blind taste test of delicious sides such as mac n cheese with bacon, chicken wings, thighs, and, breasts, and ribs. Then, it was time for deliberation. As they locked themselves away to calculate the scores, the seven teams brought what remained of their hard work to join the rest of the food at the bar. It was clear that no matter who won the competition, the real winners were the rest of the team that walked away with full bellies and wrapped plates.
However, in the spirit of competition there must be one winner and one winner only. Matt Shanklin, Account Executive, took home the reigning title and bragging rights once again, followed by Andrew Reinhardt, Manager, Web Development and Marc Stitt, VP of Marketing.
