IT departments provide the perfect settings for great stories. Think of the ingredients: You start out with technically competent people helping people who:
- Are not technically competent
- Think they are technically competent, but are not
- Are actually just technically competent enough to get into big trouble
Throw in the occasional need for urgency, executives who don’t really understand what you do, and the fact that machinery can apparently malfunction due to nothing but sheer cussedness, and the makings are there for plenty of tales. Here are 10 funny help desk videos you can almost certainly relate to.
Admit it: you’ve always wanted to wear a Storm Trooper costume to work.
This song is from the point of view of the end user, who is both clueless and somewhat prone to violence.
Who is the last person in the known universe you’d like to get a tech support call from? Martha Stewart? Donald Trump? How about Dr. Phil? The use of a soundboard full of Dr. Phil catch phrases makes him sound not only technically incompetent, but mentally unhinged.
The nice thing about older end users is that they think you really do have it within your power to do things like “fix the internet.” And when you can’t, they’re not so much angry with you as disappointed.
This is similar to a real-life version of Homer Simpson operating his work-from-home computer with a drinking bird to press the “Y” key while he goes to see a movie.
Short, sweet, and to the point. Gotta keep those average call times down!
Who knew that the key to defeating the fuhrer was a simple password lockout? (Some NSFW language in subtitles)
This one’s an oldie but goodie. But still: why is the guy with the tie wearing what looks like an engagement ring?
And, oh yeah, someone dies.
Snake needs help (and offers helpful sartorial advice).
As an IT service desk professional, you probably sometimes wonder if your life is actually a poorly-scripted reality show, because there’s no way that person could have produced that technical issue without divine intervention or malice of forethought. But if you have the right IT service management software, you have the tools to solve these issues, track everyone’s hardware and software, and deal with the unexpected.
Samanage is a leader in cloud service desk software. While no one can predict the situations end users can manage to get themselves into, we can at least make sure the service desk has everything they need to get to the bottom of it and keep business rolling.
