Trends come and go, and sometimes it seems like trends are forecasted without taking into account what might actually be feasible in the real world. Often, trends seem to arise out of whatever new device has emerged, or from buzzwords that are first uttered at conferences or on podcasts, eventually making their way into businesses. With that in mind, we’re always curious: What are people really buzzing about?
We took to our Samanage Stars advocate community with a survey on what they thought was going to make the most impact this year in the enterprise and in the technology industry in general. For the enterprise, it wasn’t a big shock to know that everyone is focused on big data right now, and over half of the respondents chose this as their answer. When we looked at the results for the industry, however, we were surprised to see how many people chose virtual reality — in fact, that was what the majority of respondents had picked for their answer.
It got us thinking: What would an average day look like if the enterprise had virtual reality?
You would feel like you’re starring in your own sci-fi movie.
You’d have new toys to play with.
You’re just “testing” to make sure all the devices are working properly, right?
It would make communication with coworkers so much easier.
No more mixed signals due to misunderstanding the sarcasm in a message.
It would also make it easier to view and understand a submitted ticket.
But it might make it harder to not judge the person who submitted it when you can see what’s really going on (just restart the laptop!).
It would take your cubicle warfare to a whole new level.
This is way too complicated. I knew we should’ve invested in one of those robots that fix this stuff.
Your boss would have eyes on you at all times — even if they aren’t in the office.
At any given moment, they could be on their way.
…but at the end of the day, this would be all of us.
